Luke Joseph Mohatt was born July 9, 1977, at Valley County Hospital in Ord, the son of Dick and Christine (Clouse) Mohatt and passed away in West Hollywood, California, on April 10, 2021.
Luke was raised in Olathe, Kansas, and Seward and graduated from Seward High School as a proud member of the class of 1996 class. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Rockhurst University – Kansas City with a degree in Industrial Relations, Political Science and Theater, and received his Masters of Science in Education from City College New York in 2013.
Luke was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul parish in Seward growing up, serving as both an altar boy and cantor. He was also active at Seward High School in musical theater, one acts, marching band, swing choir, Key Club, Winter Guard, the Blue Jay Buzz and other groups and activities.
Luke spent his adult years in New York City and California, eventually becoming an executive in the world of fashion marketing and media before receiving his MSEd and becoming an EVP of one of the largest children’s service organizations on the East Coast. After moving west, he continued his work in schools from the classroom to administration in Southern California. On the advice of the parent of one of his former students, John Zimmerman, Luke took the leap and set out to use his experience in marketing and education to contribute to the growth and lobbying efforts of growing the legal-Cannabis industry in partnership with John through his own LLC, “M Management.” Luke was active in various PRIDE organizations and had recently started a podcast, serving as a host/co-creator.
Luke was proceeded in his death by his uncle, Jerry Mohatt; uncle, Billy Mohatt; grandparents, Margaret (Mell) and Elmer Clouse; grandparents, Vincent and Teresa (Remmes) Mohatt.
Survivors cherishing Luke’s life include his partner, Josh Griffith, West Hollywood California; parents Dick and Christine Mohatt, Stilwell Kansas; brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Courtney Mohatt and nieces, Olivia and Chloe, Kalispell Montana; and niece, Claire and husband David Hamilton, Phoenix Arizona; brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Jennifer Mohatt and nieces Madeline and Isabella, Sugar Grove, Illinois; brother-in-law and sister, Jason and Stephanie (Mohatt) Cole, and nephew David, Overland Park, Kansas; uncle and aunt, Dennis and Karen Mohatt, Dacono Colorado; aunt Roberta Mohatt, Fairbanks Alaska; aunt and uncle, Teri and Jon Everson, Manila Iowa; aunt, Carrie Raymond, Manila, Iowa; many cousins and close friend, Jessica Kolterman, Seward.
Luke leaves a legacy of love and service to his family, friends and community.
A memorial mass was held at St. Vincent Catholic Church on Saturday, June 19, 2021, with Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. Luncheon is to follow at Bottle Rocket Brewery Social Hall. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Seward High School Theater Program.
